Support For Individuals

Support For Individuals

Red Zebra provide a Social Prescribing Service for East Kent. We currently cover Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham areas. Social prescribing is a way to help people make positive changes in their lives and within their communities by linking them to voluntary and community groups and other non-clinical services.

Our Social Prescribing team help people to:

  • Feel more involved in the community
  • Meet new people
  • Make some changes to improve health and wellbeing

We offer telephone consultations with our expert team of Social Prescribers, where we will chat about your needs and services we can connect you with. To take a look at the services available see our database that holds over 300 activities and services. Think you, or someone you know, may be able to benefit from Social Prescribing? Take a look at our FAQs to find out more

What is Social Prescribing?

Social Prescribing is connecting people with useful services and groups with the aim of improving wellbeing and quality of life. We refer into Services that can offer things like befriending, help with getting shopping done, peer support groups, carer support, counselling, housing and benefits advice, or it can be more along the lines of social groups, volunteering, and much more – check out our database to see more of what we can connect people up with: https://canterbury.simplyconnect.uk/. Our focus is on empowering the people that we work with to make positive changes in their own lives to help reduce the pressure on our NHS. We’re are led by what the person we’re working with needs, so the Social Prescribing journey looks different for every individual, because everyone is unique and has different areas they want to focus on improving

What Area Do You Cover And Who Do You Work With?

We can work with anyone over the age of 18, and are funded to support people who are registered at GP surgeries within what used to be known as the ‘Canterbury and Coastal CCG’ (before it became ‘Kent and Medway CCG’). That includes Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, and Faversham. We are a friendly bunch, so if you live outside these areas and need support, you can still contact us, and we will try to connect you up with the best service to help which is local to you.

How Long Do You Work With Clients?

Sometimes we have a very brief interaction with our social prescribing clients if they just need connecting to one thing and don’t want a follow up. Usually it’s around 6 weeks from the initial consultation – with a couple of follow up calls to see how things are going. Occasionally we will work with clients for a longer period depending on individual needs and our capacity to do so. There is also no limit to the number of times you can refer yourself, or someone else, in to us: sometimes things will come to a close and a while later, you need some more input: that’s human, and totally fine with us! We’re here to help when you are ready.

Can You Come And Visit Me

We do not do home visits, but we can connect you with other services which have the capacity to work face to face.

Can I Refer A Friend
